Beijing Sunrise Kempinski Hotel

The Beijing Sunrise Kempinski Hotel is the official venue for the 2014 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting. Along with the nearby Yanqi Hotel and 12 boutique villas, the complex covers an area of 14 square kilometers, featuring 595 guest rooms and suites, a grand banquet hall that can accommodate 1,400 diners, and 14 restaurants and bars.

Zhang Hai'ao, the chief designer from Shanghai Huadu Architectural Planning and Design Co., Ltd., said: "There is great beauty in the world that speaks without words. At the foot of the Yanshan Mountains, Yanqi Lake blends mountains and waters, with the Great Wall faintly visible to the north and the green fields stretching flat to the south. Every spring and autumn, flocks of wild geese come to rest in the lake. In such a naturally beautiful place, if we simply designed a tall and modern building, it would inevitably ruin the perfection of the scenery; while a traditional Chinese courtyard with white walls and black tiles, and flowing water would feel lacking in contemporary brilliance. Ultimately, we chose to interpret the integration of architecture and environment through the poetic imagery of the sunrise in the east."

The Sunrise Kempinski Hotel was entirely designed by a local Chinese design company and is known as a 'breathing' technology hotel due to its environmental protection technology.
